Introduction and Description of Materials

Source Proximity

The primary source data used in this study are Kwame Nkrumah's published speeches, presentations, selected organizational charters, constitutions and books.  Primary source materials also include selected periodical publications used specifically as a vehicle to convey Nkrumahism.

Secondary source data included published works and interviews of colleagues, comrades, and ideological partners in Nkrumah's endeavors.  These sources were used to explain the dynamic development of Nkrumahism and Pan-African nationalism. In cases where persons and organizations testify to being impacted by Nkrumahism, these sources are considered primary in regards to Nkrumah's impact on Pan-African agency and thought.

Tertiary sources were also used when they addressed Pan-Africanism's development or Nkrumahism specifically.  Perspectives in this last area are seldom African-centered and the locating process will identify which were and which were not.
